Ilex vomitoria (Yaupon holly) contains NO emetic compounds in either the berries or the leaves and no part of it will cause vomiting. Both the leaves and berries contain small amounts of saponins, but so do lots of other plants that we eat such as spinach, onions, and asparagus. These plants are suffering! They are Japanese hollies (Ilex crenata), and I don’t know with certainty whether these causes I listed are precisely correct and there could be others, but trying all of these things seems like a good start. Pruning stimulates new growth and spring is the perfect time to get out there.✂️😃For fertilizer I think perhaps a balanced fertilizer (10-10-10) could be effective, without knowing exactly what nutrients are missing (you would need a soil test for that); hollies
