When a patient recovers from COVID-19 and leaves the intensive care unit at UC San Diego Health, a chime plays throughout the hospital while staff line the hallways and cheer. Patient Juan Valdez Cazares was recently greeted by the chime during his discharge, after spending several days intubated in the intensive care unit (ICU).
