Misophonia: When Everyday Sounds Trigger Anger

Which sounds get to you the most!? Misophonia, sometimes called “sound rage” involves a decreased tolerance and strong reaction to specific sounds. Trigger sounds can vary from person to person but common triggers include chewing, snapping gum, sniffling, heavy breathing, cracking knuckles, pen clicking or tapping and burping or coughing. These sounds can send the person into “fight-or-flight” mode and bring about anxiety, discomfort, rage and/or panic. This is often a source if distress to the
