First Alert, winter weather and lake-effect snow

Today will feature a mix of sun and clouds with highs in the upper 20s to lower 30s. Snow showers and even a snow squall or two is possible this morning. Winds will be gusting up to 35-40mph over the next few days.
Some models drop the wind chill into the negative 40s in the Twin Cities on Friday and Saturday mornings. Will it actually get that cold?
The snow will be slow to fall and slow to accumulate as it fights through the dry air and tries to reach the ground. A light powder is expected and this type of snow will pack to the roads if driven over multiple times. Watch for slick spots all day Saturday, especially south of I-80. Snow chances are are likely to persist into the afternoon too.
Snow has moved through the area last night and this morning but after it ends, we’ll be hit with another round of cold air. As the snow tapers off, it won’t be able to go anywhere as temperatures are well below freezing and wind chills are even colder meaning shoveling will be difficult with the cold.
Temperatures are plunging across our area with single digits now in place. Wind chills will now be running below zero throughout the night.
Few more bursts of lake effect snow plus high wind to affect travel in the U.P. before a brief reprieve.
Friday is a First Alert Weather Day because the combination of snow showers and strong wind could lead to travel issues.
