Thick layers of ice remain on the ground and power lines, and outages across the South skyrocketed as a result. The storm has claimed the lives of two men in Louisiana. Officials there confirm they both died of hypothermia.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - WKYT Chief Meteorologist Chris Bailey issued the first call for significant winter weather expected to impact the region through Monday, with snow and ice forecast across central and eastern Kentucky. Bailey says there is a winter storm alert for what could be a shutdown storm for much of Kentucky and surrounding areas.

This storm will bring a mix of heavy snow, sleet, and freezing rain, leading to dangerous travel, possible power outages, and bitterly cold temperatures through early next week.
